At long last, Deschon Winston played a game that will live long in the memory versus Ateneo de Manila University.
In 33 minutes of action, the winger, who is 24 years old, led De La Salle University to its first victory over its bitter rivals since Season 80 by scoring 25 points, dishing out six assists, and grabbing five rebounds.
Winston played an outstanding midrange game, which resulted in him shooting 47.6 percent from the floor. This helped the Green Archers break their seven-game losing streak against the Blue Eagles.
And as for Winston, he had this game circled on his calendar the whole offseason in anticipation of it.
“It was undeniably a match that we had been planning to play for quite some time now. Simply put, we were doing all in our power to come out on top” according to the PBA D-League winner of 2022.
“I was able to keep more rebounds this time despite playing against a larger team. I had to leave immediately in order to crash the boards. Simply put, everyone on our team had a strong desire to come out on top in this match”
In spite of his great performance, Winston had a rough start to the game, but he managed to overcome it. The first quarter ended with him scoreless as he simply was unable to get going and contribute.
However, after some time, the graduate of Central Michigan University discovered a strategy that allowed him to ultimately assert himself in the game.
Finishing strong is often more important than starting strong in some situations.

According to Winston
“In the first quarter, coach Tab (Baldwin) – who is a really outstanding coach – he implemented a bunch of defensive tactics to kind of stop what we do best.” “I simply needed to take a seat, look at the game, and see how they were playing us. Then, I needed to take a step back and evaluate how I might be most helpful.
“As the game was winding down, I was doing everything in my power to ensure that our team would come out on top.”
There is no question that Winston has adjusted well to life in the UAAP. Even if he has some difficulties here and there, he is beginning to display the consistent level of excellence he is capable of.
What better way for him to make a name for himself on the big stage than by guiding the Green Archers to an impressive victory over their bitter rivals, who they have had difficulty defeating over the course of the previous five years?
